finding a room for the night

finding a room for the night

The credits
Started to roll
And our names
Flashed briefly
Across the screen

We both knew
This was the last
Sequel we’d make

We split up
Like atoms
In empty bedrooms

Every kiss
Was a question mark
And your tongue
Was a freshly laid road
That never led anywhere

Our conversations
Were two locks
Trying to pick each other
With broken credit cards

My insomnia
Stopped you
From being the girl
Of my dreams
But you were
The woman
Of my bloodshot

Your cigarettes
Made tiny smoke signals
That could only be read
As I lay
In your bed

They wrote out
Distress haiku
That hung around
The light-bulb

How to tell you
I don’t love you

March 19th-
We always break up
Before April

Even the stars
Were against us,
Like some shining little Hitler’s
Or cupids
Bitter half sister

Yours read
No way honey
And mine
Forgot how to spell

Teabags burst
And spelt out
It’s not meant to be
On the ocean floor
And I was the captain
Of a one man ship
Lost in some blonde storm
Trying so hard
To find the lost island
Of your heart
A small hotel
off the coast
of your third
And rent a cheap room
For as long
As I could
