As He Remembered

As He Remembered

As he drifted into the night,
he tried to recall the years of his being,
he fought and he fought,
had they been right?
He could not remember his thoughts,
he was leaving right now,
he was leaving with naught.
He could not grasp a smell or a taste,
he was going so empty,
till there was a face.
Her features surrounded,
her hair all around,
if he was ever lost,
she always found.
Through all the years of their lives,
through children,
through pain,
he strangely felt conforted,
then it began.
Her eyes smiling over him,
he knew what to to,
he started to let go,
with her soft"I love you."
Though empty before,
he now felt no pain.
With the one single thought,
"my love, we'll meet again."
