A tale of two lovers

A tale of two lovers

Hand in hand they walk alone
Along the moonlit beach.
Unaware of all around them,
But the sand beneath their feet.
They talk and laugh about times the've shared
And times yet still to come.
They talk about their hopes and dreams,
And how much luckier they are then some.
To love each other always,
And be together was their plan,
But unbeknownst to them
Fate had dealt a different hand.

For lurking in the shadows
Of the darkness they left behind,
Was a stranger who'd been watching them
With demons in his mind.
He'd been watching them with a jealous eye
Waiting to make his move.
Replaying all his memories,
He had nothing left to lose.
He'd been watching them for a while now
Inching closer by the minute.
They never noticed his glaring eye,
And all the evil that was in it.

They playfully tackled each other
Upon the cool soft sand.
Now's my chance he thought at last
The time is now at hand.
He quickly fell upon them
teasing with his knife.
Saying all he had to say,
Then tried to end their life.
Her lover stood to defend her
To save her from her fate,
And as she tried to stop him,
She quickly realized she's to late.
The stranger turned and grinned at her,
Pointing with his drooling blade.
"Now for you I'm sad to say,
My dearest pretty maid."
Then he suddenly lunged at her,
The knife aimed at her chest,
She quickly tried to get away,
Then all she did was rest.

The stranger stood to get away,
But tripped and fell upon his knife.
Penetrating his evil heart,
And ending his tortured life.
As for our two lovers,
Their promises they both shall keep.
As their friends and family
Say silent prayers for them and weep.
For buried side by side
Still together the two shall be.
To be close by each other's side,
For all eternity.
