Bus Stop Blues

Bus Stop Blues

She sits at the bus stop
All alone
He sits down beside her
Idle chit chat
He wants to take her home

An apartment across town
She keeps the t.v. and the lights on
The telephone rings, no one home
She keeps the curtains closed, do not disturb

5:00 a.m. at the bus stop again
A crowd of people
He sits down, she stands up
I miss you, I need you is all that he says

She looks everywhere except at him
She wonders why he is doing this
She boards the bus, take her away
As he silently watches her leave

Next morning at the bus stop he paces and waits
He knows that it is way too late
He knows that he's hurt her, he's done her wrong
Her love for him has long since gone

He takes from his pocket the note she left
On that cold November day
He reads it once, crumbles it up
And tosses it away
