Veiled Romance

Veiled Romance

Feelings swayed,
By delicate worded threads,
Woven into our conversations,
Creating a capricious covering,
For our Lover's bed.

Obeying the rules of engagement,
I gave you my full attention,
While my tongue was bound,
From words I would have said,
I tried to convey my feelings,
With serene, silent affection.

Gentle gazes,
Through the smokey haze.
Moments of your impulsive kisses,
Upon my lips unspoken sentiments,
Were declared in wordless ways.

Did you hear the soundless words,
As they whispered in my soft kiss?
Could you feel the depth of my emotion,
In my dove-like tender touch?
Or did the subtlety of it all,
Create a message that you missed?

The days went by fast,
Nights with you, quickly flew,
We both knew it wouldn't last,
Reality kept reminding us,
My visit would soon be through.

Snowflakes and silver stars,
Streaking across the night sky,
We were too scared to speak,
When the strange silence fell,
Between the guarded gazes,
Of you and I.

Time was burning around the edges,
With a desire for moments to never end.
But we knew those remaining hours,
Were our last, in the morning I'd be gone,
Returning to a life of just friends.
