She gently calms the tiny wisps of hair that dance across his cheek
fingers tips barely touching skin, not wanting to disturb his sleep

A smile plants itself upon her lips; she can’t help herself, compelled to just give him one tiny last little kiss

She tenderly nestles her nose beneath the folds of his chin, barley breathing, just enough to inhale the scent of his skin

A tug pulls at the strings to her soul; she can’t help herself, never imagined something so little could make her feel so completely whole

She carefully tucks and snugs his tiny body under the sheets, desperate enough to do whatever it takes to keep his precious soul at peace

A lump forms in the pit of her throat and she tries so hard not to cry; she can’t help herself, the tears stream down her face as she softly sings a lullaby

She slowly walks towards the door never taking her eyes from where he lay, making sure that if he woke she was never more than a step away

A love fills her heart like that of no other , she can’t help herself; as the door quietly closes she whispers, sleep tight my beautiful baby brother
