Last Sunset

Last Sunset

The anchor drops from my heart, as her gate closes.
She leaves me with a black rose.
The air in solitude is stale,
She’s left me here before and I’ve acquired the taste.
There’s loathing in each breath.
As the past melts into these sordid waters,
Her cold hand grabs my wrist,
And the panic grips my lungs.
I inhale her black rose, for a last sense of life.
Choking on a taste I’ve already forgotten,
The rose hits my hollow heart in its last beat.
Pumping thorns through my putrid body,
My veins tear open, inch my inch.
As the color returns for an encore,
I float on a crimson island in this black ocean.
As her hand pulls me under,
I see a black rose petal afloat.
That rose petal was my last sunset.
