We sit in cozy reclining chairs
Legs elevated…
Some read,
Others chat,
Some nap,
Others snore,
I write…

Dripping liquid soldiers
Radiate through our veins
On a deadly mission
With prescribed license to kill,
To destroy malignant cells,
To suppress self-destructive immune systems,
To make us well.

…hours later…

We rise infused,
Armed with chemotherapy-induced resolve
To fight serendipity,
To wrestle fate,
To win this phase
Of a long and arduous battle against an insidious disease.
