Prisoner In the Night

Prisoner In the Night

Held with nothing but my thoughts
envisioning you as you are at night
pouring over the keys, the accompaniment
to your heaven sent voice that
rises like the tide on Venice Beach
the mounds of sand protecting you from
the crescendo,
those emotions that constrict
your breath, pull you apart and away
from the horrors of children without
food or homes or mothers
to tickle their toes and smile into
their shining eyes.

Like a theory, punctuated by light
you hold me prisoner
in the night
waiting for some confirmation
of the end before there could be
a beginning
pouring your beautiful psyche
into the malleable and heightened sense of
what is inside this night.
