Unrequited Love

Unrequited Love

It looms like a ghost
Hovering, its warm breathe
Cascading across my chest
Warm, yet sending chills
Up my spine that tingles

From one moment to the other
Seems as an eternity, time has faded
As if death itself has come creeping
Yet breathing life anew into
One that has known it not

As quickly as it comes
It leaves even more slowly
Lingering, waiting, as if trying
To leave a trace of its essence
The figure leaves the darkness

The darkness has consumed me
As if it were a blanket of madness
My lips part but there is
No sound that escapes them
I can hear the figure lingering

Down the hallway it moves
Farther into the darkness, away
My heart leaps, wanting to go
But stay all at the same time
Pinned to the darkness I lay

The figure in the darkness
Has gone from me, for now
I fall asleep, hoping, longing
For the time it will happen
When the figure will return
