“To Where We Belong”
A poem by
Samantha Mathews

By mistake, you left an angel here;
I lost my wings and grow in fear.
I feel so sad; please set me free.
Here I’ll wait till you rescue me.

I lost my heart and can no more fly,
I looked above and began to cry.
I want to come home, oh please Dear Lord.
To be with you where I’m loved and adored.

This thing called life, it hurts so much
I’ve grown too weak to bare the touch,
I’ve tried to seek goodness but it’s just not there;
in a world where war wages and people don’t care.

Where people throw hearts away,
where lust replaces love
I’d look for a sign,
in search of a dove
To symbolize one last message of hope;
to heal the sick and bring us to cope.

You were never to far when you heard me cry.
You knew how I felt when you’d hear me sigh.
“Just a little longer,” You would whisper to me,
but I could not quite hear then, or even yet see.

“I know you feel broken and I will heal you heart.
I know that he had hurt you and you are torn apart…
But I promise you this: that he’ll never forget
who I placed in his life and the he’ll regret
That he lost an angel which all this time was you.
I thought he would’ve seen or at least he knew.

He wanted much more; though you were already enough.
His greed sold him blind now he’ll be in on the rough.
So don’t cry so much over him, Samantha my dear.
He just isn’t ready, so don’t shed a tear.”

I have something better waiting for you.
I have you many plans and tasks to do.
So now I’m bringing you home to stay;
I cannot wait another day.

I found you your wings to bring you home again.
You never lost them; I kept them safely for a friend.

Too good you are you were for earth;
from the first time I dropped you off,
in time for your birth.
So when I came back for you, I had you a song;
we listened together, as I carried you home
to where we belong…
