the promise of tomorrow

the promise of tomorrow

She sits with a smile so enticing,
In a place so inviting
That I can’t help but dream and long
For that day somewhere in my distant future
When I shall be rewarded for persistence,
For never failing to see the constellation from the stars,
For always invoking the vision of HER
To illuminate moments darkened by
Harsh realities of life;
To elevate shoulders momentarily sagged by
Burdensome voids of support,
Resounding with strident echoes of excuses effluent
From pessimists near and far,
Seeking to desecrate the ideal,
Conspiring to steal HER luster and appeal
That keep the wheels of my mundane life spinning
On this lonesome trail,
This treacherous climb
To that inviting place,
That lofty abode in the sky,
Haven of optimists and fantasies,
Mecca of Micah and Mickey…

And HER…

For she is the PROMISE of tomorrow...
