For M.J.

That was the Fall
I was a stormy dark cloud
Full of murderous anger and flashes of lightning
Even to the wind
A closed petal on a bud
Tight as a white-knuckled clenched fist
A firm refusal to enjoy any of the world

I entered your realm
Of commerce
Frames and arty-prints/posters
We spoke of Russian food ‘imperial borscht’ avec canard mais oui
Assisting with your Sunday acrostics
Your eyes sparkled
As stars that twinkle or dewdrops dance
All to bring me back to bloom

All that Winter
Me working painting sunflowers morning glories
Covered with pastels
Of colour and delight
An artist living once again
And at that ‘art opening’
In your shop
Flowers just for you.
