The lines of age carved on my face
Are tales untold of love displaced
The boys I’ve known and who knew me
Were lost and found and then set free

The mark upon my furrowed brow
Like wounds of life still bleeding now
Reflective of the joy and grief
And pain awaiting sweet relief

The dreams that never came to pass
Times left unlived and undone tasks
Some frantic leaps at faulty bliss
And lovers’ lips I meant to kiss

There was one love that spanned the years
Delighted in yet fraught with fear
He crept inside my heart to stay
The fate foretold to my dismay

The mourning of what never came
Of love that couldn’t be sustained
The trysts that fooled me in my sleep
And lured me into love so deep

Forever’s a long time they say
But waiting here is where I’ll stay
I need him to return to me
For he is all my heart can see
