Dreams of Marilyn Monroe

Her curves
cause us to desire the dead,
like men accursed.

Wishing to feed
that pouty mouth
the same way ancient Aegyptians
left food and lavish offerings
for spirits exhumed
by forbidden curses
from the mummy’s tomb.

Her image
of pink sensuous flesh,
partially unwrapped;
summoning us
to our preordained fates…

When our imaginations run so hot,
like engine radiators boiling over;
ghosts

sap

our strength.
