all I can do is cry

all I can do is cry

Feels good doesn’t it?
Those kicks to my knees
Weakened by circumstance and disease
To stumbling blocks
Scarred by surgical cuts,
Secured by staples on bones
Once unbreakable
Now as fragile as grandma’s hip;
So fragile that when I sit
They creak like rusting hinges on a barn's door,
Turning heads in public places,
Forcing me to cough for cover
Then swallow my pride;
For I’m only thirty
But I could easily be an early boomer
Without healthcare
Who had been a good soldier,
A model citizen;
Yet no one cares,
Least of all you
Who glean such pleasure from my pain
As you deliver viscious kicks to my knees
Crippled by circumstance and disease...

And all I can do is cry…..
