sitting on the porch swing,
looking out on a still dirt road
to myself i quietly sing
of the pain i've come to know
a truck ambles by, is it you
and i catch my breath
then i begin to cry like i always do
saying its for the best
the dog plays in the yard
with my little brother
and even though youre gone
there will never be another
i watch the sunset like a picture
over these green trees
and i'm still so wishful
that that ringing phone is for me
i can feel my broken heart
pounding, steady as a drum
i will fall apart
how was i so dumb?
but this is life
yes, i know
it goes on day and night
but without you, where can my future go?
