match-maker

match-maker

"You’ll love her," he gushed
visibly animated at the prospect
of being match-maker
for his kid brother;
young, brilliant,
painfully shy
and still a virgin at twenty-nine.

I was fine being me,
having just earned my masters degree
in bio-chemistry,
nothing was more fulfilling
than a night in the lab
alone
with complex formulae
and my proton microscope.

Girls bored me
and before you think it,
Nooo!
I’m not gay.

"But this one’s different," he added
"She’s a scientist!"

My head snapped
like a drunken teen driver
in a three-car collision.

"And she’s hot, tall, athletic
with a body created for sin."

I fantasized for weeks
of long sleepless nights with her,
in my lab,
pushing the frontier
of scientific research,
breaking genetic codes,
finding cures for chronic disease.

"Wynelle’s her name
and there’s one more thing
you need to know."

Dude, she’s a scientist!
That's enough for me.

Big bro placed his hand on my shoulder,
looked me straight in the eye
and, with his best poker face,
said:

"She has an Adam’s Apple!"
