a rose unfurled

a rose unfurled

The Budgie whistles
though he is weak
and much too young
to even speak;
his fledging wings
do barely fly
but fly they will
some day up high
with eagle’s grace
and flashing pace
that runs you breathless
as you chase
then pause…

to smile
after a mile
as joyful tears
rush through your eyes
from years of struggle,
months of grief,
a just reward
alas too brief
yet cherished more than treasured pearls,
a blessing mixed,
a rose unfurled.

He lifts you up
though he is down.

He gives you pause…

to smile...

not frown.

to: nick
god bless!

(James G.D. Paul)
