Falling Down the Well

Falling Down the Well

The precipice is before me, do I dare step closer?
Fear envelopes my senses, thoughts from long ago.
Thoughts of the way things once were, and where they might have gone.
My heart was full, it was complete, and then I left for many moons.
And my heart, it waned, inside the shell, of my body’s frame
And when I returned, my thoughts, they swirled, of the times long past
And my heart, I felt it again!
It stirred within me, and I felt fear, something I didn’t think would return
Fear, that there would be strife, tensions would snap, or nothing would be there at all.
But my fears were ill conceived, I realized, as I saw you standing there.
And I take one step closer, and a single jolt of fear tears through my body.
As the ground gives way, and I fall into the abyss, that is my inner truth.
And the fear went, as quickly as it came, and I stood there.
On the ground, with you beside me.
