An Imperfect Disillusionment

An Imperfect Disillusionment

A single tear traces a path down my face
It is only the first of many to be shed
For my life from this moment on will be void of your grace
And where before I walked on clouds, my feet are now like lead

A sunset will now be the ending of a day
And not a moment that will be shared with you
Before I stood tall, now in the wind do I sway
And my mind, it races too

Oh, how that first tear stung!
The pain subsided with each passing week
My hands, at times in frustration, I wrung.
And a solution to these feelings, did I seek.

I swallowed many pills, and much drink
My mind, as well as my surroundings, at times was filled with smoke
And with each passing day, I forced my heart to shrink
And my throat, at times so raw, that on nothing did I choke.

Then realization settled in to my skull
I understood what I had to do
No longer could I allow myself to be an empty hull
And go back; you, did I have to turn to.
