Shy Bodies of Blue

Shy Bodies of Blue

Though the sky was still blue
that unusually hot July day
the stars had already begun
to shine, the moon
reign down upon our heads
the brilliance of a summer love
that already knew fall, winter &
the return of spring
in another life you say?
or the embrace of time and space
beyond a dull white line
blossoming under an umbrella
to protect us from
such intense light

Such was this gift given
that unusually hot July day
begun with a soon to be
familiar frustration
but with no ending
just a slip from
day to night
night to day again
your head on my pillow
your mind inside mine
your shy body almost
an illusion
brought on by too much sun
or moonlight
