love's armageddon

love's armageddon

We met somewhere between lust
and commitment,
enticed by the promise of passionate peaks
that pierced nebula
for a glimpse of love’s Armageddon,
a galaxy unexplored,
with giant spirals of bliss gushing
from rumbling craters,
the sanctuary of blessed unions…

but the hissing red-eyed dragon
on the prowl,
bared his talons
then severed that tenuous umbilicus
between two hearts
not yet shielded by love’s armor,
and thus...
d r i f t e d … a p a r t …

swept by passion’s ebbing tide
into the valley of the uncommitted,
settling on islands of remorse…

surrounded by bitterness…

deserted by love.
