Let the story unwind
Let the gimmick be told
Writing so smooth
Like a pull of whiskey glides down the throat

The burn is satisfactory
The pain is nothing to dread
Temptation is worse
Like fire, it seeks dead

Wants to feel anything at all
Doesn’t matter how hard it hits
Or how hard you fall
A harmless act without self control

Savior does not come
Leaves you to yourself
Nothing left in hand
But stolen elegance

Contort and bend
Fit the style command
Bind the breaks
There is nothing left

Follow through
Misconstrue everything I say
Believe what’s told
Vanity not found

Hidden under layers of what can’t be
Settle the score with wit
Find nothing in yourself or your hurt
What was accomplished?

Glass shatters to the floor
Like the love broken
By twisted words
From a whiskey burdened tongue
