the avowal

I have lost the wood, the heath,
Fresh aprils long gone by...
Give me your lips: their breath
Shall be the forest''s sigh

I have lost the sullen Sea,
Its glooms, its echoed caves;
Speak only: it shall be
The murmur of the waves.

By royal grief oppressed
I dream of a vanished light...
Hold me: in that pale breast
Shall be the calm of night.
