i have surrendered to heavier things

i have surrendered to heavier things

i have surrendered to heavier things
given myself to the emptiest places
i have waved my hands in delight at
the faceless stoics of godless nations

in hurricanes i have complimented
dead actresses and played othello
with what very well may have been
ghosts or simply vacant people

for love unrequited i have bent in
half i have kissed stones and eaten
from drain traps and dust bins and
without question or so much as sigh

i have asked only to be loved simpler
still i have asked only to love to hold
you in sleep and only when you need held
perhaps i would simply hold too tightly

if it were a matter of grip or pressure
be assured we could come to some
quiet arrangement as to the proper
amounts and i would not falter though

you it seems already have i mean by
that faltered and if it is in fact that
issue which keeps you from me be
assured i have limitless forgiveness

please remember i have surrendered
to heavier things and you my love you
as with most all the worlds most precious
things you my love are oh so light
