Used and Forgotten

Used and Forgotten

The night is dark, the streets are darker.
Not so physically, but emotionally they are.
Abandoned houses, with broken windows
loom over me, their stare is never ceasing.
Gaping smiles, devoid of teeth, as I draw near.
But these belong to the people.
A man, weathered, skin pulled tight, like a tanned hide,
shambles near me.
This moment will be frozen in time.
A question is asked, he shumbles closer.
Perhaps he did not hear?
Then greasy, boney hands touch me.
I am gripped by fear, as well as him.
I cannot move, I am not there.
In body yes, but not in mind.
I am miles away, and years back,
to a time when I fought everyday to live.
I am jolted back, to reality, by the contact of another.
The old man is gone, and I am alone once more.
Disgust washes over me, I feel like some old tissue.
Used and left, never to be thought of again.
<y stomach rebels against me, and I soon find myself hunched over.
I clean myself up, and bury this moment.
Another crack has been added to the pane of glass
that is my psyche.
How many more, before I break?

-Poems are not just words written on papers. First, they were words, written in minds, and on hearts.-
