Paper hearts
Up and down
With every shallow breath

Hands poignant
Playing their socialist lullabies
Sweet melodies
Of cruel intentions

Fragile figures
Slink through tree lines
Slight and sinister
A bouquet of smoke

I trusted my heart with you
Shattered now it lay
Sweep it up
Throw it aside

Discard as trash
Broken like glass
Abandon for dead
Quietly deceased

Hushed before
The sound pours out
Like sawdust
From a dry bone mouth

Promises torn away
Bruises still sting
His face preserved
Forever in your mind

Eyes close
The place unmistakable
It all takes you back
To the place of beset

Not even the promise ring
Could protect your purity
Exposed and paltry
Violated and broken
