It changed in the flicker of candle light,
A shift of emotions going the wrong way.
Why? What did I do? What did you do?
Silence blankets the room. We do not move.

A sigh in the darkness, things left unsaid.
We turn the opposite way, back to black.
My dreams come, briefly, evanescent, they go.
I hear you breathe, I hear you think. I hear you wonder.

Back into that place we vowed not to go.
Black depths of veiled midnight suspicion,
Whispers of infidelity and of betrayal compress us
Reaping what we sowed, now we dine on fear.

Heatless morning comes; we shiver in our solitude,
Compulsory words only, we talk what we must
Then onto our day with remnants of pain still etched
We waste our time, we waste our life and for what? For what?

One hand reaches out toward the other. A thunder clap and we’re back
Into each other, insatiable, in awe, in love, in time…
We save ourselves for one more night, light the candle.
Tonight we’ll lie as one, pressed together, drowning in love.

Why do we continue onwards through countless emotional shifts?
Delirious one moment then onto anger and pain the next.
I fear we are ultimately linked to that flickering candle, burning on and on…
On and on, until in the end the flame will go, just another whisper in the dark.
