The Other Side

The Other Side

I am so lonely tonight,
listening as the cold and dismal rain falls,
and feeling the bitter rush of wind
blow through my soul,
leaving it empty and forlorn.
The other side of the ocean is so quiet,
and so far away,
as I receive no words to comfort me.
She is sleeping, sleeping, soft
as I sit here awake and alone,
with nothing to replace her words.
I read the poem she wrote me,
over and over,
but I cannot make it new.
and the rain floods my heart,
too quickly
to pretend.
So here I sit, lonely tonight,
hoping for a brighter dawn,
and even just one word,
from the other side.
