I Miss You When You’re Sleeping

I Miss You When You’re Sleeping

I miss you when you’re sleeping,
I watch you in your slumber,
eyes closed, peaceful breathing,
sheets askew, and tousled hair,
a picture could not contain your beauty.
I long to lay aside your body
curled softly as a child’s,
and hold you,
caress you,
whisper in your ear
“I love you.”
But I shall contain my need,
so as not to wake my resting love.
Still, I miss you when you’re sleeping,
as I lie awake, alone, amidst the dark, weeping.
