In the midst of the farm
Behind the church
On a moonlit night
With a windswept lurch

A lad cool and handsome
Made his way through
To a beautiful young lady
Standing on the porch askew

The moon went behind the clouds
And even the stars seemed far
The lad''s and the lady''s eyes met
With love shining in them like stars

Their story is a pretty long one
As this was not their first meet
They had met long ago
In a shower of sleet

Since then love has remained
For each other in both''s hearts
But God had played a game
And they were always torn apart

But now the game seemed to be over
For this may be the time
To let the bygones be bygones
And make everything fine

It is never too late or too early
If you want to express your true love
For lovers true at heart
Can wait for you patiently even beside a cove

They had got their chance
To speak their hearts out at last
But oh! the game of the Lord!
It wasnot yet their chance

They couldnot express it after all
But kept looking at each other
Waiting patiently to hear it all
From the mouth of the other.
