green grass delusion

green grass delusion

look closer
into the shade of the ego tree
there, under pride’s fickle pile
of wrinkled sundry leaves,
hides the archetype of us
orphaned in haste of youthful indiscretion

we’d revolved in the galaxy
of conspicuous affection,
igniting wistful choruses of envy
as our love bloomed
from seeds of casual flirtation
into an intimate vine
sprouting crimson ivy petals
glazed with the lustre
of eternal bliss and rapture
consummated in the Fall of puberty
only to fizzle in immaturity’s trifling Spring
as we chased the elusive elixir of greener grass…

(James G.D. Paul)
