never just one

never just one

I knew from the start
there was never just one heart
never one dream, one sky
or easy goodbye

when blood filled my mouth
and smoke blinded my eyes
there was never a reason
to hide behind lies

there were mountains
and valleys, and fast moving rivers
but there was never a place
for those indian givers

for they take and they borrow
they steal and they hide
but I was never their girl
to love on the side

when I listened to the rain
or watched a flame burn
it was never the beauty
that made my soul yearn

there were flickers of hope
and shadows of doubt
but there was never a puzzle
you couldn''t work out

and I knew at the end
there was never just one mind
never one truth, one reason
or answer to find
