Three Words

Three Words

Go ahead.
Whisper it into my ear.
The soothing sound of protection,
Of comfort.
The lingering voices causing late nights,
wondering.
The arguments.
They meant nothing,
They meant all the world.
The burden,
The only thing left
Tying me to this unforgiving world.

But tell me, what is it all for?
Is it for our precious companionship?
Or perhaps something more.
The longing for grief and suffering,
Because we knew it would all pay off.

So dear, serenade me like you do so well
With those simple words,
I love you.
