13 breaths

13 breaths

I circled around the grove thirteen times
To invoke the goddess to hear my pleas
I struck on her bell causing thirteen chimes
The sound as if thunder shaking the trees
Thirteen candles blazed with crimson flame
Inside a circle made of lover’s tears
Thirteen drops of blood were offered in her name
As I asked for the One I loved to be near
From beyond the veil for thirteen breaths
Appearing as if etched in ancient glass
My lover, gone thirteen years into death
Returned for a time that is too quickly passed
Alone in the grove with the rising sun
My story in thirteen lines is now done.
