Degrees of Love

There are many ways to love someone
With the weight of your heart
Those who you can grow to love
And those you love from the start

In my heart, there are all the levels
The first one is a simple friend
Someone who I can talk to
And will be there in the end

The second, one of eternal hope
That feeds my soul with trust
The third is a little more complicated
It involves some carnal lust.

The fourth degree of love,
Is kind of hard to describe
It''s a love and a passion
A jolt so my heart is revived

The fifth and final level
And one I hold so dear
Is the love I cannot live without
When my love needs always be near

You are somewhere stuck between
Degrees one through four
A friend I hold so close to me
Who makes my delicate heart soar

But you are not a level five
As much as I want you to be
Our lives just don''t quite fit together
It just not meant to be

You are my friend with all my heart
My personal shining star
I love you more as each day moves
Even though you are so far

I need you in my life, dear friend
I do not want you to go
Selfish as it seems to me
You have every right to know
