Maybe Something

Maybe Something

Maybe that look was connected to a feeling—
a notion of seeing you and me both being
something better: together, a couple, two, a pair—
the impression of a possession too important not to share.

Maybe your look was carelessly hooked,
A meaningless glance; a romance mistook,
A wandering sight that went slightly off its line
landing gentle, accidental, consequentially in mine.

Maybe it was nothing… but maybe it was something,
A desire undecided – a love that yet meant loving,
A private revelation undisclosed to other senses,
The beginnings to an ending which slipped past your defenses.

You didn’t know who I was, I didn’t know who you were,
I have an unsettled feeling of nothing solid to be sure,
But Intention has a way of exposing our covered tracks--
Perhaps that was why you looked away,
And why I, instead, looked back.

The one revoked thought nourishes"
