When I looked on the way home,
I thought I saw your bones
Stuck up in a tree—

Clean and white and unassailable
And they were beckoning me.

When I looked again,
It was only a plastic sheet
Caught up in the tree,
But it was hanging like skin.

It was your skin
And I saw it puff up
In the wind—

And it was beckoning me.
