My Wee Button

You''re sleeping, breathing slow
Fist clutching your comfort pillow
I''d rather lay awake another hour
Than move my bloodless arm, risk waking you

So I mould to you, close as I dare
So I breathe you in, heaven-scent hair
While my mind plays over our day...
A smile, a tear, the balance clear
I Love You

Never felt loved so intense
So known, so owned
(though, rest assured, I''ll never be wrapped around any little finger I don''t want to be)

And I long
Though I always fall short
To understand

Then I''ll rehearse my speech
Plan our garden''s secret seat
Then, again, count the years
Surely not

So I''ll be jealous of the rain falling
Jealous of a suitor calling
But like ''Shopgirls'' Mr Ray Porter
I''ll try to love you like a daughter

And I''ll wish you well
(though it won''t be easy)
And promise that, if you should ever need me
I''ll be right here
