Elena's Smile

Elena's Smile

If I were master of the globe
So many things I’d do
End wars, junk mail and breast implants
Another thing or two

Well I’m not powerful like that
I cannot make it so
But there’s one thing I’d give the world
Before it’s time to go

Elena’s smile can do so much
To heal a broken world
She thinks she’s ordinary but
She’s just the kindest girl

So young, naïve and without guile
Vulnerable to hurt
Her heart’s been broken by a man
Who treated her like dirt

But still she wears the bravest face
Adorned with her sweet smile
That melts the iceberg of my heart
And soothes me for awhile

One look at her and I’m redeemed
For hours, days at least
I’d share her with a broken world
And it would find real peace

Yes, many things I’d do to fix
A world with so much need
If only one my gift would be
Elena’s smile, indeed
