Lover Under Lime

Lover Under Lime

My love lies in hot sands

Death''s white cloud spirals into blue skies,
fountains on the glib wind, stinging my eyes.
'Neath its storm you lay. Root still, young and fresh.
'Neath the lime thrower''s hands your face stares, steeped in flies.

The quickening lime sated on flesh,
spills in clouds and clumps, covers truth, to bulk my torment.
Rallies the eternal hope of eternal life. A lost life in memory.
There you lie, open to the bawling sun in Marrakesh.

My love lies in hot sands

Bright turbans and uniforms throng,
sprawling the dust. Chatter excites
gnarled pointing fingers that hover and shake.
Cool fruits caught in hems chill parched tongues.

The lime thrower flings his powder on bound hands,
until the salt white sheet flames pink skin.
It is dusk, and the wide grave gapes for the moon.
Alone she rests, so sudden, I cannot wake myself.

My love lies in hot sands.

Potash stains my mouth and face.
The evening rises to blue darkness.
The Casbah sounds echo across the desert dunes.
She lies still, and white, and fresh in my hate.
