We live in the memories
of our passed childhood,
when we played with a bat
made out of a piece of wood.
When we demanded a lot
from our parents,
and dreamed of the day when
we''ll be earning lots of dollars and cents.
And also had expected
to be treated like a young prince,
to be loved by everyone,
by near and distant kins.
Someday, to become a pilot or a footballer
I had aspired,
or to get a job where
I''ll never get fired.
I had also dreamed of
becoming very rich someday,
but also be sacred of the days when
it will all work and no play.
Too good it felt then
to be loved by everyone,
too much time I had
for fun.
I remember the day when I cried
just to get mother''s attention,
and I remember the lively childhood, when
learning alphabets was the only tension.
Those were the days when
siblings were the only enemies,
when we had our own little wars,
to decide who gets cake''s bigger piece.
When grandparents sat by us
and told stories and fairy tales at night,
and also gave life''s lessons
of never starting a fight.
When mother would make a cold shake
on hot summer afternoons,
when tv was not an idiot box
it was genie''s lamp for watching cartoons.
When biggest of our mistakes
were easily forgiven,
when everyone still cared for you
life was nothing less than a movie then.
But alas! childhood comes
but only once in a lifetime,
though if God had made it twice
he wouldn''t have committed a crime.
Childhood comes only once in life,
that''s the way it is,
and all we can do
is to cherish its beautiful memories.
