There is a calm tonight
No weather battering
the window

There is a knowledge
on a soft breeze
A reminiscence
that turns me to the cold harsh facts

Until I have counted losses
and seen more defeats
in this life, in my victories,
than any man of peace sees
in the world at war
Searching history
for a happy story about love
where not everyone is dead

So tonight I write about the sun

The savior on your pillow
after the brash boldness
of night has faded

Where the world is awake
and you are not alone
in a room
filled with nothing but your thoughts

Somewhere you can start a conversation
and not hear only your voice
echoing off the walls
of your mind

And yet
I burn for the night

I want to fill every one of my nights
with you
so I won't need the sun
to chase away a nightmare

Just know there is a plane
we can get to
but we can only get there
together
Hand in hand into the mystery
we find in front of us

Our secret
is how brave we really are

How only two steps more
beyond these restrictions
lead us to the track of love
we have been searching to find

And the loneliness dies
like a rain cloud
after the rain
