A Damsel Hiding in Distress

A Damsel Hiding in Distress

Locked high in a tower,
Lacking Rapunzels luscious locks
Cinderellas glass slipper shattered on the floor
And not a frog in sight
A single tear fell from my cheek
But my fairy godmother failed to appear
Just me imprisoned by my thoughts,
Way above where most even bother to look
I watched prince after prince gallop on by
On white stallions unable to stop
Until that day
His lost eyes looked up and up
And saw my tower way up high
As his black horse stopped to eat
He climbed the walls so perfectly built
And entered a space meant for no one else
I begin to believe he may just be my prince at last
He smiles and pulls me close
And, side by side, we wear our broken and rusty crowns
In a paradise way above where most would even bother to look
