Yon Maiden

Yon Maiden

Far away in yon turret
There dwells a fair maiden.
All arrayed with golden hair, her face
Doth shine like a beacon o'er the land.

High on yon pedestal she stands;
A symbol of all woeful maidens
Who, by love enchained,
Suffer the scorn of their fellow men.

For our maiden dwells not yonder
By her own choosing,
But alas by the vengeful hearts
Of those dear to her in blood.

Not e'en her pleading looks,
And neither her cries of woe
Could touch the hearts
Of those who bound her.

None could forgive she
Who in pursuit of love most true
Fled the long soured courtship
Inflicted by her blood.

Yet though her very name
Lie steeped in greatest shame,
Still in her heart she knows
That all was not in vain.

For on the far horizon
A brave warrior rides,
In pursuit of a love most true
And aye, a maiden such as she.

Soon she knows that love
Will find her and swift
Like the wind carry her
Far away to freedom.
