Elizabeth Rachell Donald - Farewell My Love Part Two

I Elizabeth have found myself alone in this world,

This world I live in,

My husband, my friend, my lover, gone a year,

My children I have lost but two, the disease and bad health have taken the three,

Surely they will let me see them both, taken to the workhouse eight and nine,

We are divided by a wall,

A wall so tall the clouds have disappeared,

Who would treat us so,

I have no belongings, only my heart,

It hangs threadbare on the loosest of strings,

But my childrens images repair it before it falls,

Only I can savour the sunrise that comes every day,

The small hole that is my window to the outside world in which I lived,

Allows my face to be warmed,

How I yearn to return to the place I was born,

At my time in life, I have done no wrong, yet I am imprisoned,

Unable to share my thoughts,

Unable to share my love,

Unable to see my children,

I Elizabeth have found myself alone in this world,

This wretched world I live in.

Farewell My Love......
