One quick note for you

One quick note for you

If I was on my deathbed
and you texted me
I would tell God to wait
I had somewhere more important
to be
because I have dreamt about
your touch for so long
that just your smile
is a warm hug to me

And all there is to say
about love
has been said a million times
so I follow you dumb
in the mouth and lame
in the heart
the same way night follows day

So Goddamed close
that we never touch

The light fades
and dark is born
on the doorstep in an instant

But I am blind
without you anyway

Without the rays of everything
you do
until I find a way
to cry out

To scream from the page
that I need you
and I know it
and I need you to know it

And when your gaze
is on me, your soul staring
from its lovely window
I know I fall short
of every one of your expectations
but your kindness permeates every aspect
of my life even though I know
you mutter under your breath
about me
as you walk away

But I just cannot find a way
to say I love you
without becoming weak

To be bold as a bull
to say it
when I am crushed under your heel
like an ant

So it would take all my courage
just to be brushed away from you again
like a gnat
