You can stop transcribing,
You know yourself well again.
New callouses sprout at finger tip
Point it where you want.

Looking back may seem wholesome:
Sepia toned and framed.
Brush off the dust with your sleeve,
do you like what you see?

Refugee of wet dust and electric denim,
There were reasons to reappear.
Maybe not essential to your plans,
there was still a meaningful exchange.

Ears and eyes full of wonderment,
Mused by sideshows.
You'' re outgrown, grown away.
He''s stone weight on you.

Incapable of releasing you,
He''s addicted to these sweet goodbyes.
Foreign memory of evaporating sentiments,
The cat doesn''t come when you call anymore.

Perhaps, you had more to work with than he,
Some progress can''t be measured in certificates
Or punched on your time card.
Only checking in to survey growth.

Promises turn to delays,
Even when you give advance notice.
Arms crossed tight so you can''t reach out.
Force it, relish that grating peeve.

Stirring up the bottom silt,
Revision becomes a lost cause.
Strong new roots anchor you elsewhere.
You can''t go back to the man you thought knew you.
