Loving You

Loving You

Like a river's incessant slap against
the levee, memories of you creep up with
a deceptive sweetness, grabbing
my heart and pulling it under.

If I never see you again
I shall not be wounded by your love.
Instead your memory rises like
the sun''s rays into the hollowing chamber
of my soul with the most radiant intensity.

You anointed me with sprinklings of hope
allowing me to love the difficult things.
Echoes of your music make such
a beautiful sound it takes my breath away.

I feel my spirit lifting, lofting into the air
as it soars upon the wings of an eagle.
Your indelible shadow lifts with
the rhythm of the wing strokes.
Loving you allowed me to catch the
rainbow of consciousness.
